Joanne is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology with a degree in
Photographic Illustration. Her photography and computer art has been
displayed in the AKC Museum of the Dog, Rochester's George Eastman Gallery, New York City and New Jersey. Her tapestry series of work is currently available in Taos, New Mexico.
National Geographic publishes Joanne's dog show photography each year. In October 2000 National Geographic Magazine chose Joanne as the exclusive photographer to promote its "Explorer" TV show titled "Top Dogs," a film on the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Joanne has been photographing the prestigious WKC Dog Show for eight years.
Joanne's work was accepted into the 2000 and 2001 "Art Show At The Dog Show", a prestigious juried fine arts competition devoted to the dog. All of Joanne's 2000 entries were then chosen for the Special Exhibit of Selected Works on display at the AKC Museum of the Dog.
Joanne's newest computer art is a series entitled "Tapestry." The work
involves her own photography which is digitally manipulated into various
fabrics and textures to create a final tapestry feel. Her inspiration for
the series derives from the tapestry reproductions she collects of the
"Lady and the Unicorn" tapestries of c.1450 - all of which depict a
greyhound somewhere in the scene.
Contrary to her digital Tapestry Series, Joanne's traditional photography
focuses on people and animals found in their natural environment.
Joanne is owned by Rocky, a large retired racing greyhound. Rocky ran for a
year on a Massachusetts racetrack before pinching a spinal nerve and ending
his racing career. He was adopted through the New Jersey Greyhound Adoption
Program and given a new chance on life.
Joanne is in her seventh year as a Professor of Digital
Photography at NYC's School of Visual Arts.
